My current dissertation topic involves the exploration of values/attitudes/perceptions of medication assisted treatment (MAT) and compassion fatigue and trauma desensitization in therapists. In detail, I am interested in examining therapists’ values/perceptions/attitudes about patient’s choices to utilize methadone, suboxone, and subutex as treatment for opiate addictions; and if and to what degree these factors impact therapists’ level of empathy and compassion for patient reported trauma. In my study, values, attitude, and perception will be recognized as separate variables. Attitude refers to personal disposition in relation to pertinent information. Perception refers to personal interpretation of pertinent information. Lastly, values refer to personal morals. Based on the understanding that I have gained throughout this course and others, my study design will be quantitative correlational. My data will be collected through interviews and surveys; and multiple regression analysis will be utilized to test and detect any statistical value among these variables.
