For this activity, you will be writing a message like one of those you have read about in Chapters 9 (Routine), Chapter 10 (Persuasive), or Chapter 11 (Negative). Here’s how it will work:

Part 1: You have been randomly assigned to write ONE of the types of messages. In other words, you may be asked to write a routine/good news message OR a negative message OR a persuasive message.  You will need to understand:

How each of these messages should be organized. (For example, a direct message begins with the main idea, while a negative message starts with a buffer. For more details, review Chapters 9, 10, and 11, especially the videos!)

The conventions of style associated with writing business messages (for example, the You Attitude, positive language, etc.). Again, review the videos on these chapters!

How to cite outside sources following APA format (in-text citation, quoting/paraphrasing, and creating references). You will be provided with an outside source to use in your message.

. This will be a relatively short message (between about 300 and 450 words). You will write the message in Word and submit it to Turnitin when you are finished. This part of the assignment will be worth 85 points.

  • Part 2: For Part 2 of this assignment, you will respond to the questions about the strategy you have been assigned. Each response should be between 25 and 75 words long and should follow good writing practice (complete sentences, proper grammar and punctuation, etc.). You will find the specific questions in the assignment description. This part of the assignment will be worth 15 points.
