DUE by October 13th: Submission 2 (average 500 words or 2 pages for 10% of total grade) – Two Audio or Video Selections from various on-line links (e.g. you-tube) are to be compared and discussed (6%), with at least one accompanying reference for each selection (a reference can be an additional on-line link that gives written informational background for each selection) (2%); you may focus on any selected geo-cultural region of the world, a specific musical tradition, genre, artist, group, or instrument. Then respond to another’s posting by comparing either of your selections with either of theirs (2%).
You may organize your material by: 1) discussing the two selections first, giving informational background on each – again, include the link(s) used to get this information – followed by 2) relating them together by using any of the concepts or categories shared so far cross-culturally (e.g. instrument types, contexts of music-making, cultural models, syncretic sources, etc.), then 3) compare either of your selections with either of a classmate’s by responding to their post.
