The value of Liberal Arts has been proven for decades because without liberal Arts those that believe in the STEM program would not be as successful as they are today. Education is the key to fabric of this world and with humanities there would only be those that think one way. But it is wrong for anyone to be forced to take classes or do a job that does not make them emotionally satisfied. Critical thinking is a major part of Liberal Arts and with this degree I can do whatever I choose. The question of “what will you do after you have received you degree”, has been asked to many of us that has and will finished our degree and we usually answer teach. It is a same that teachers are no longer viewed as important to this society but as babysitters to those that are in other fields of work. This statement is very disturbing, “Experts tell us that the industry-specific knowledge of a typical vocational education is exhausted within a few years, if not by the time students enter the workforce” (Jay & Graff, 2012). The experts have no faith in the system that taught them to read, writing, and arithmetic to reach the goals that they have achieve so far. Yes we need the STEM program due to the fast paste that the world is moving but we need humanities to teach them the basics of how to get there. Defending the value of Liberal Arts should never be an option because Humanities is the key to the purpose of this world. “For ultimately, to take advantage of the vocational potential of humanities study as we propose is not to sell out to the corporate world, but to bring the critical perspective of the humanities into the world” (Jay & Graff, 2012).
