In Matthew, chapter 16, verses 13-19, we find the dramatic scene where Jesus asks the disciples “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They offer vaarious answers, and then Jesus asks them pointedly “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” Peter, of course nails the answer when he blurts out “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”Jesus then tells Peter that what he has said, he has been shown by God, and he says “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail over it.” (“Peter,” incidentally, is the Greek word for “bedrock.”)
