Proposals can be an important aspect to your argumentative paper. It is a noncommittal explanation of the topic that you will be writing about. It gives the opportunity for the professor to get to know your research interests and help guide you to better resources and a better argument. Your proposal should be no longer than 1000 words and contain the following:
- Title: It helps to keep the writer focused. This can change, but make sure to include important ‘key words’. Make sure that your title goes beyond simply describing the subject matter – it should give an indication of your approach or key questions.
- Questions or Main arguments: Not quite a thesis statement. What are the main questions that you ask in your project and what do you expect the main findings to be?
- Approach: Why are these questions important to you? What do you hope to prove or disprove?
- Sources: What primary and secondary sources do you plan to use. Give at least two primary sources and 1 secondary source. Explain why you choose these sources.
Please remember your paper should be double spaced in Times New Roman 12 point format!
