Assessment: Each student will complete an individual project/activity that increases their awareness of safety issues related to their personal lives and develops skills that enables them to increase their safety or the safety of others. A 1-2 page written essay and documentation of project/activity completion will be submitted to the instructor that identifies the project/activity, discusses what the student learned, and explains the impact the project/activity had on the student. Projects must be approved by the instructor (credit is not available for activities completed prior to the start of the course). Appropriate projects include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Completion of a Hunter Safety Course
- Completion of First Aid, CPR, or AED training
- Completion of an on-line independent study course through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. There are several appropriate courses that can be found at http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/crslist.asp
- Completion of a Lifeguard training course
- Completion of Community Emergency Response Training (CERT)
- Attendance at a safety and health conference (approved by instructor)
- Completion of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) on-line course
