1) Most of my listening I do over online. I listen to our local Jazz Station 88.3 or at https://www.jazz88.org/Listen.asp (Links to an external site.). Also, Youtube is a great way of finding Jazz music. Also, https://www.jazzradio.com/ (Links to an external site.) helps out a lot because you can actually choose what type of Jazz to listen to. I hope these websites help and feel free to contact me if you guys have any questions.
My favorite songs so far for the week are
Keith Jarrett Trio
“Summer Night”
Bye Bye Blackbird
This song starts with piano and high cymbal and drums. The piano and drums are more prominent than the high cymbal. There is also guitar and the piano dies out and guitar emerges and blends with the drums. After a while, the drums die out and the piano comes along and creating an effect where it feels like people are slow dancing. At the end, it’s just piano and it’s very sweet and soothing. The reason I fell in love with this song is that of how the piano is played and its soothing effect. Its also at the end of summer so I am kinda reminiscing the long summer nights.
Lew Tabackin Quartet
“Chic Lady”
I’ll be seeing you
This song starts with flute type of instrument. In the background, there is light piano and drums. The flute is elegant and emerges back n fort that creates a soothing feeling. The flute goes up and down the beat while the piano and the drums stay the same. I can also hear cymbal after a while and then everything including the piano, drums, and flute are brought together and finish off. This song also kept me on my toes when I was doing my listening journal because of how well it was put together. Both these songs were to hear and I will most likely put them in my iTunes.

This is a link to the song, “Moanin’” led by Charles Mingus. This song is interesting to me because of the how extremely the instruments are layered. It sounds like musical chaos, so much so that I had to double check that I did not have multiple songs playing at once.

This is a link to the song, “Song for My Father” led by Horace Silver. I chose to listen to this song based on its title because I predicted that it would carry some emotionality. It is a very upbeat song that has many waves. It is interesting to me to listen to the song and hypothesize the musical choices Silver made to make this a true tribute to his father.

This is a link to the song, “Sing, Sing, Sing” led by Benny Goodman. With the first few notes, I realized I had undoubtedly heard this song before in several commercials. It is, in fact, very popular. The horn section is so prominent in this song. This is definitely one to dance to!

This is a link to the song, “Take Five” by Dave Brubeck. As a kid, my dad would always quiz my sister and I on the title of this song when he would turn it on. This song is interesting to me based on the juxtaposition of the saxophone to the piano and drums. I have seen this song used in the background of car commercials and it makes sense why. This song is a ride and takes you over hills and into valleys with instrumentation. I could listen to this all day long.

Title: The Live People
Lead Musician: Jack McDuff
I found this song interesting because i have never heard a Jazz song like this before. The song is up tempo and it is very contagious as it makes you want to get up and dance instantly. The song has a lot of texture and that great Jazz feel to it. All of the instruments in the song are played in a way that keeps the song fresh and groovy. This is now my favorite Jazz song because it lifts your spirits and it creates a positive atmosphere and is great if you are in a dancing mood. This song is timeless and i could see artist like Bruno Mars doing a song with this instrumentation. Overall great song.

Song Title: Take Five
Lead Musician: Dave Brubeck
I found this song interesting because it is a relaxing song. This is something that you can listen to during a nice long car ride or during a romantic evening. The instruments are played in a way that allows you to get lost in the music. This is also a a great song to listen to when you just want to clear your head. When i listen to music i think about how it makes me feel and where the music takes me. This song is interesting because it has multiple vibes and it is so relaxing. This is an amazing song i definitely recommend this song to anyone looking for a great Jazz song.
